Casa de Piedra-stay awhile and unwind

Accessibility

Casa de Piedra is located on a river, very close to the ocean, in a steep mountain valley. It is a real village in an out-of the way and spectacular location. While it is not wheel-chair- or walker-accessible, one of the owners has bad knees and does not have significant difficulty with the terrain.

Adults: The streets in the village are hilly, and the hotel is located across the river from the entrance to town. There are two walking bridges across the river - there is no road across. The river is an estuary, and is tidal — there is shallow water around one base of the closest bridge for a few hours every day. There are stepping stones across this shallow water. During the rainy season (June-October), things are more wild — there is a side channel to the river which is 2-10 inches deep, which can be crossed on stepping stones. There is a suspension bridge a short distance (about a city block) up the river which is dry at all times, although there may be puddles in the path. Note for your shoe wardrobe: we wouldnÕt bring high heels, but you can dress up for dinner in town.

Kids: The stairways in Selva and Luna have risers which are higher than in the US, and may be a new challenge for very small children. Rio and Mar have only one step at the entrance and two steps to the bedroom areas. Aguila has a spiral staircase to an airy sleeping balcony Š much beloved by older children and teens (and us).
